Welcome to the Lisbon Polytechnic, an institution looking to the future!

Here is the information needed to be part of the academic community of Lisbon Polytechnic through the Special Contest for International Students.

An international student is a student who does not have Portuguese nationality.

These are students of foreign nationality other than those of a Member State of the European Union, and who are none of the following:

Lisbon Polytechnic has a tradition of sharing and cooperation with several higher education institutions outside Europe, notably in the USA, China, Brazil and Latin America, allowing students to study and take up internships under a regime of exchange mobility.

In addition to the European Union, the IPL has protocols with Brazil, Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP), such as Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique; and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), such as Timor-Leste and Macau.

The Erasmus Programme allows students of Higher Education to be able to have an international experience valued at the academic and scientific level, but also on a personal level, for its linguistic and cultural enrichment. This intellectual growth enables the acquisition of new working methods and increases the level of student employability by broadening horizons, developing entrepreneurial spirit and building initiative capacity.

The Centre for Languages and Culture of Lisbon Polytechnic, CLiC-IPL, is a unit of the IPL, unincorporate, of pedagogical, cultural, scientific, and service-providing support, in specific areas.

Recognizing the importance that language learning plays in this global world, the CLiC-IPL h mission is to organize language courses, complementarity to the IPL courses, and the promotion of diverse cultural activities, whether for the IPL community, or for other audiences.

The implementation of a quality assurance policy, in line with internationally established standards, is one of the institutional objectives of Lisbon Polytechnic Institute. It is enshrined in the statutes and other strategic documents, in compliance with internationally established standards.

Lisbon Polytechnic is a high level public higher education institution, oriented towards the creation, transmission and diffusion of knowledge, culture, arts, science and technology, through study, teaching, research, development and knowledge transfer. Its mission is to produce, teach and disseminate knowledge, art and culture, as well as to provide services to the community in the areas where it has competence, contributing to its consolidation as a reference institution in the national and international plan.

The President of the Polytechnic of Lisbon is the institution's top governing and external representation body.

The President is the governing body of institution policy and chairs the Management Board, the Permanent Council and the Academic Council.

The President is elected by the General council, by secret ballot, under the terms set by the present statutes.

The General Council is one of the governing bodies of Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL), consisting of 33 elements:

  • 17 professors and researchers;
  • 5 students; 1 employee;
  • 10 are invited external personalities.

 

The promotion of community insertion linked to professional and business activities, corresponding to the acting area of IPL schools, and contributing to a solid vocational training in higher education, are the main goals of the presence of these external members.
